Back to basics…sleep basics!

I’ve got sleep on my mind, how about you?

We’re so blessed with a new baby girl (deep, happy sigh), so naturally, my mind is organizing sleep routines to maximize everyone’s nighttime.

After the first couple months of nighttime feedings, baby girl is now fairly consistent at sleeping through the night (hurray!!), but I’m finding that even after a full night’s sleep, I’m waking up tired.

My quality of sleep has varied throughout my life. The first 3 decades, my sleep was below par. Don’t get me wrong, I slept a lot for sure, but I would wake up groggy and tired and wishing I could sleep more. I often had nightmares and felt scared as well. Plus, I was a night owl, boy was I! I was pretty sure all of this was the norm and didn’t think much of it.

In my late-twenties, my health improved through natural remedies, meditation, and some great practitioners and my sleep also transformed. I started having nights with no nightmares and waking up with energy! This was such a shock to me and after days and weeks of improved sleep, I realized how poor my sleep quality had been most of my life.

I then learned and studied even more about the benefits of rest and it’s potential, and implemented new tools and my sleep quality really took off.

Waking up groggy this week has reminded me to head back to those tools and start fresh—back to the basics! This is great timing because I’ve been working on a sleep guide to share as a freebie. Sounds like a chance to enhance my rest again too!

As with most things, I’m no expert, but I do love to hear other people’s natural tips and tricks, so I figure I’ll do the same and we can all learn from each other!

Here’s a link to the sleep guide, entitled Go to Bed!

And here’s a link to a restful sleep meditation on my Insight Timer page. Guided meditations have been really helpful for me, so give it a try if you’re curious.

I truly believe that consistent, restful sleep can provide healing and balance that can help us reach optimal health. I talk to so many people who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, so I really hope this helps you to create solid nighttime routines.

Let’s get some rest!
